We have just come through one of the coldest winters in many years. Temperatures plummeted to minus 10 degrees in places
just after Christmas and we had our most prolonged cold snap since the 1960s. As well as having to contend with icy roads and
water shortages, there was that old problem of heating systems breaking down, leaving householders to shiver while waiting
anxiously for repairs to be carried out. Now that the worst is over, it gives us a chance to take stock and prepare for the next
cold spell, which could strike at anytime with our unpredictable climate.
CASCADE now working with External Insulation Ireland, to provide the most efficient way to
insulate an existing building, through EXTERNAL WALL INSULATION (EWI) FACT.
External Wall Insulation (EWI) is a composite cladding system comprised of suitable insulation
and waterproof coating which is applied to all the external walls of a building. With up to 40 per
cent heat lost through external walls, EWI can help reduce your heating bills by up to 40 per
cent. It can also reduce your carbon footprint by cutting your CO2 emissions by up to 2.5 tonnes
per year. As well as having a huge impact on the inside of your home, CASCADE INSULATION
can also have a dramatic and positive effect on its exterior.

A BER or Building Energy Rating is an indication of the energy performance of a home. A BER is similar to
the energy label for a household electrical appliance like a fridge. The label has a scale of A-G. A-rated
homes are the most energy efficient and G-rated the least efficient. From 1st January 2009,
a BER Certificate became compulsory for all homes being sold or offered for rent.
