Cascade also supply and fit a range of windows and doors to improve your homes energy rating. Below are some of the details you must consider before installing your windows and doors. Windows and doors of any building can be one of the main areas of heat loss, easily losing up to 15%. Installing the right windows and doors will highly increase the energy efficiency of your home.

Soon to be introduced is the WER (window energy rating). Similar to the home owners BER.

There are various ways to
increase your WER:

Frame Design & Composition

Frames can be made of aluminium, wood or most commonly PVC. All have different energy ratings and can improve your WER. Many frames now come with pre-installed insulation within the frame itself.

Type of Glass Fitted

The thickness of the glass and agents used within the construction of the glass can attract heat and trap it internally without allowing external heat loss. Triple glaze adds an extra layer of insulation over the more commonly used double.

Argon Gas Filled
Another method of insulation, is to fill the glazing with Argon gas which is a poor conductor of heat, acting as a barrier to heat loss.

A BER or Building Energy Rating is an indication of the energy performance of a home. A BER is similar to the energy label for a household electrical appliance like a fridge. The label has a scale of A-G. A-rated homes are the most energy efficient and G-rated the least efficient. From 1st January 2009, a BER Certificate became compulsory for all homes being sold or offered for rent.
